My neighbor had two of the trees in his yard destroyed today... I took pictures of the destruction, but I liked this one the best. Up-close and personal with mutilated branches.

Week 10, Easter - 53

Easter at Wolf's place. There were more fighters there than there are at most fighter practice's I go to... Was pretty spiffy. Wish I could have fought, tho I suppose I should get out my armor and see if I can anyway. Fighter practice is this Thursday!

Jacque was helping me take some of these shots. She'd keep telling Dior (I think that's how you spell her name, pronounced Dire, like the band) to stay where she was so she could take a picture. :D

One of the things I really like about the video camera over the digital is the fact that it can take really close up shots from the same distance away as the digital, yet they come out so much better and really cool.

Week 6, Wildcard - 40

As I was driving home from work (I actually spent most of the day home with a sick Jacque) after dropping off some bookkeeping I'd been working on, I saw this. This happened on the corner of 29th and Topeka Blvd... Anyone who has been to this intersection knows, there is no way to pull off the side of the road and *not* block traffic in some manner. Needless to say, this was one of those odd moments where you want a camera and are actually glad you have one. I'm not sure why I enjoy these kinds of pictures... Innate photojournalistic tendencies maybe. Who knows.



Now these next two photos are more along the lines of what I was intending to post... Sorta. We headed back to the He said, She said letterbox, but at night. We didn't actually go to the letterbox itself, but walked the path to it. I wanted to see if the path still felt fairly isolated at night and to see if the stars would be clearer. While on this trek, the Blair Witch Project burst from my camera...

But Jacque's nose isn't runny enough :P

All I need now is video coverage...

Week 6, Wildcard - 39

I have decided to postpone my rigid schedule. I will simply include in the photos I'm taking some element of the 6 possible choices, therefore, all the titles will be Wildcard until I say otherwise.

Jacque and I went on a letterboxing adventure... We started at an old school house that was used back in the 1920s. It's weird to consider that it was nearly a century ago that students learned about the world around them in that small building. Jacque liked the porch the most. She kept returning to it even when we were done with our search.



She wanted to go inside the building, but realized rather quickly that the door was locked.

It would have been neat if it were still a working water pump... :D

This is one of only two bow bridges still in existence in Kansas. Made of iron and steady as a rock, but wow, don't lose your footing. Good thing the chain link was there.

Along the path we took, Jacque kept finding bird's nests and flowers.

This is the final bridge before the letterbox we found... Yes, that's an actual rope bridge. I thought in the directions when they said "rope bridge" in quotes, that it was going to be something like it, but not really a rope bridge. Oh no, it's really a rope bridge. About half-way across there is a metal rod that's shaped like a U and is the width of the bridge. I'm not quite sure why it's there. We didn't stop to investigate. Along the path prior to this and going across the bridge, Jacque kept telling me "Be careful!", so I didn't stop to see what the purpose of the metal was so as to alleviate my daughter's fear. :)

Here's Jacque holding the letterbox. She helped me stamp her book, my book and the book in the box. She was a trooper. She walked the entire mile to get to the letterbox, but she couldn't quite walk back. She had fun for the majority of the trip though.

Jacque and our letterboxing kit, though I have since found a better carry-all. After walking all that way attempting to take care of her, the cameras, the box AND the directions... Jenn was right the first time, we needed something easier to handle, SO I found it and it'll be used from now on.

This trip motivated me more toward making letterboxes for others to find in Topeka. I find I appreciate letterboxing a little more than geocaching, only because, letterboxing gives you clues and directions, geocaching only really gives you coordinates (sometimes clues). You're so much more on your own with geocaching and letterboxing feels more like an adventure. I never would have realized where we went today existed in Topeka. It felt like we were in a world separate from the busy bustle of the capital. I can't wait to see it when the world is more in bloom and the birds are more willing to show themselves. Apparently where we were is a bird watcher's area. Can't say I'm must into bird watching, but it would be neat at any rate to see if all the bird's nest actually fill up during the spring and summer.
